Foreclosed Review

6/10

The game I was never meant to play 😆 This is a 3rd person action shooter developed by Merge and recently released on most current gen platforms.

You play as Evan Kapnos, a man who wakes up one day to discover that the company who has his identity (which in this world is something similar to a deed or title) has gone into bankruptcy and his ID has been Foreclosed. He is no longer able to access the blockchain that allows him to use, purchase or interact with the things as he normally would during the day. You come to find out that your ID along with a few select others are the reason this company was put under and thing begin to unravel from there.

The strongest asset this game has is it's presentation. The story is delivered in comic book style art, panels text and with the dialog even highlighting the important story points in different colored text. Voice acting is there and solid for the characters you interact with but not always coming from your character's unique but ultimately impact-less decisions. I played through this game 3 times for all the trophies and tried different dialog trees to see what it would do. It barely affected the other characters responses let alone change any outcome of a conversation. Some of the lines delivered also don't exactly fit the context of whats happening but overall the story was a positive to me.

The 3rd person combat was not as sharp. You are able to adjust the sensitivity of when you are aiming your weapon but not when you are looking around to find your enemies (unless I missed it but I looked for quite some time, this review changes a bit if thats the case). Enemy interaction can vary depending on how you fight. Use your gun primarily and you will feel like you are always out numbered. Focus more on your gradually unlocking 'programs' and you will be throwing your foes around the room with ease. I felt so uncomfortable on my first playthrough but halfway through my second I finally began to feel that the combat system had some legs.

More game length and tighter controls and this game would have gotten a higher score out of me. 6/10 it took me 8 hours to platinum (shoulda been 4 but me dumb)
